This is an RV-only, off-grid getaway—perfect for those looking to truly unplug and explore. Lodging is dry camping (no hookups) on private property at AlmostA Ranch. You’ll bring your own self-contained RV, camper, or trailer equipped for boondocking. Meals on the Adventure
As part of your Desert Escape experience, we provide simple, satisfying meals during the two full excursion days. Each morning begins with a light breakfast offering to get you going before the day’s activities. While out on the trail, we’ll serve a basic lunch on location, keeping you fueled for exploration. Evenings bring everyone together for fun, western-style dinners around the campfire, perfect for swapping stories under the stars.
If you have specific dietary needs or preferences, we recommend bringing your own provisions to supplement your meals. For additional options, Bouse has two local restaurants: the Ocotillo Lodge, a bar and grill with a casual vibe, and El Mariachi Restaurant, serving classic Mexican dishes. Both are great choices if you plan to arrive early or extend your stay.

Ken and Desi Ekstein are the adventurous duo behind decades of hands-on experience, historical knowledge, and a passion for off-grid exploration to create unforgettable getaways in the American Southwest.
Ken brings deep expertise as a logistics repair technician, with a strong background in mining history, desert navigation, and vehicle operations. His knowledge of abandoned mining locations, equipment, and Arizona’s rugged backcountry makes each off-road excursion both educational and exhilarating. As your trail leader, Ken ensures the ride is as smooth and safe as it is thrilling.
Desi—known throughout the drone industry as Drone Diva Desi—is a nationally recognized drone educator, FAA-certified pilot, and history preservationist. With her guidance, guests gain a bird’s-eye view of forgotten landscapes, capturing breathtaking aerial imagery and learning the stories that shaped the desert’s past.
Together, Ken and Desi bring not only a love for off-roading, history, and adventure but also a strong foundation in event planning, ensuring that every trip is well-organized, fun-filled, and memorable. Your stay at AlmostA Ranch is true boondock camping—off-grid and unplugged—perfect for those looking to reconnect with nature and enjoy wide-open space. Expect desert winter weather, which can range from warm, sunny days to chilly nights, so layers are a must. You’ll be surrounded by stunning desert vegetation like creosote bushes, saguaros, and ocotillos, and you may spot local wildlife such as jackrabbits, coyotes, hawks, or even a curious burro or two. This is raw, beautiful desert terrain—dirt roads and wide skies, come prepared for dust, adventure, and the quiet magic of Arizona’s outback.
This adventure involves moderate physical activity and is best suited for those comfortable with outdoor exploration. Participants will travel across rough, off-road terrain in an All Terrain Vehicle (ATV) to explore on foot through uneven desert ground, climbing short inclines and walking through sandy, rocky, and dusty areas. Some hiking is necessary to fully access and experience the ghost towns, abandoned mining sites, and hidden desert features.
